Solve your plugged drains issues

You are standing under the shower for a relaxing time, and all of sudden you realize that water is rising around your feet. Is there anything as inconvenient and messy as a plugged drain pipe!. Imagine you are brushing your teeth and you notice that the sink is already half filled with water, Yuck!. Dealing with clogged drainage is all together an unpleasant experience because it is complicated and unsanitary. Yet many residential bathrooms or kitchen will suffer from a choked drainpipe incident at one particular point or another. The best course of action for you is to be prepared to deal with it by learning how to unblock bathroom drainage.

Why do drainage get clogged up, what is the underlying cause?.

Most often, when the dirt, sand and debris that we wash off from our bodies combines with the hair that we shed in a bath, all those entangled clumps accumulate within and eventually block the drain. The condition gets worse when products like conditioners, shampoos and detergents accumulate in the already clogged up drainage. Eventually this will become more and more dense and this is what prevents your water flowing uninhibited through your drainpipe. So, if you are finding the water isn’t running freely through your drainpipe resulting in water rising quickly in your bath or sink chances are that you have a clog in your plumbing system.

How to remove the drainpipe blockage.

If you happen to have a blocked sink or bathtub, there are some steps you can take to clear up the passage ways and create a normal flow once again. Of course, in either the sink or the bath, the first thing you should do is remove the plug. In case of a bathroom sink, the plug can be removed easily with a simple pull or it might need the complex effort of unlocking the hook keeping it in place from under the sink. In case of bathtub drain pipe, you can either remove the overflow plate or unscrew the plug.

The accumulated matter choking up your drain may be clearly visible when you have taken off the stopper. You are most likely to see bunch of hair and other debris entangled in a clog. Reach down into the pipe and pull out as much as possible. If it is out of reach, you can use a wire clothes hanger to remove it if you can hook into the debris and pull it. Your drainpipe is likely to get unclogged if you remove the soap scum, hair and other particles from it that you can see.

If, after exposing the drain, you observe that the blockage is not close enough for removal with the wire you have, then you will need to find another way. A very useful tool is a drain plunger which can eradicate those blockages that are too deep to reach. First, cover the overflow drain with a wet cloth in order to make the air suction from the plunger stronger. Then put the plunger over the drain mouth and press it up and down repeatedly. As soon as you release the plunger, the trapped water may drain away immediately.

Even the plunger may not clear the most dense and hardened matter inside your plumbing – that’s when you will have to deploy a chemical drain pipe clearing product. However this should be your last resort because the chemicals used can harm your bathroom fittings and accessories, they are corrosive.

Get skilled help if this is necessary, call in a drains contractor.

If all the steps outlined above fail to clear the obstructed drain pipe, then it is best to call in a crack team – a qualified and experienced plumber or drainage contractor from your area. Professional plumbers will have specialist equipment and know-how to unblock your drainpipe in next to no time. It may cost you, but you will find it is worth the money once you can use your sink and shower worry free.
